Joseph Paxton
Born in 1981, Paxton draws from his experiences growing up amongst nature in rural Monmouthshire, Wales.
His work uses animal forms to consider ideas of strength, vulnerability, and the overarching theme of what it means to be a living being in this world. Form and movement are the focus of the work; rather than individual characteristics it is the essence of the animal which is emphasised. The shape and texture of the bronze evokes the landscape, stressing the link to and importance of nature in Paxton’s work.
Paxton has exhibited widely across the UK and the USA, including artist residencies at Gettysburg National Park and the Taft Nicholson Centre for Environmental Humanities, Utah.
