Sara Moorhouse : Ceramics

13 April - 11 May 2024
Overview
Sara has lived in Cardiff since 2003. Her interest in colour and line and how its use can create optical illusion developed into a PhD (2006-10). Her work initially involved the conical bowl, though she has developed her work by combining not only other forms (flared, round, altered vessels) but different series (saturn, loop, ticking, arable landscape), and different mediums (porcelain as well as stoneware), as well as varying the colours and techniques of application.

Sara's work is hand-thrown and turned, the movement of the wheel often reflected in the slight asymmetry of the form. The lines are applied by returning the bisque fired bowl to the wheel and painting with ceramic colour by hand. A matt glaze is then applied to stabilize and enhance the coloured surface.
